CHRISTMAS BIRD COUNT FOR KIDS!
Inspired by the well-loved Christmas Bird Count, the CBC4Kids engages new generations of young birders across North America.
CBC4Kids events are coordinated locally by naturalist groups throughout December and January. Experienced guides show participants how to identify local birdlife and use binoculars, then lead them outside to find and count birds. After their adventures, the young Citizen Scientists enjoy hot cocoa together and share their observations. Their findings are submitted through an online checklist and reported to eBird, where they can be used in scientific research.
CBC4Kids was established in 2007 by Sonoma Birding in California. Bird Studies Canada joined as the Canadian partner in 2010.
The Hilliardton Marsh Research and Ed Centre is proud to participate in this annual fun family event.
This year cbc4kids event will be held on January 5th from 10am-noon. Participants are asked to meet at the Hilliardton Community Hall by 9:45 to sign in. Here we will begin with a large group session before breaking into smaller groups where youngsters will enjoy a bird related craft, games, a bird walk, and a banding demonstration. These events will take place between two locations; the Hilliardon Marsh and the Hilliardton Community Hall. Parents or another responsible adult will be required to transport their youngsters between these two locations (which are only minutes apart). All young birders and their families will reconvene back at the community hall for more hot chocolate and to tally their bird checklists!

The cost is 10 dollars per child or 5 dollars for current members.
There is no charge for accompanying adults (max 2 adults per family).
